Tihamér Hlavacsek, pianist is a doctoral candidate at the Royal College of Music London, as an RCM Studentship holder, supported by the Royal College of Music.

He graduated with Honours from Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 2002, as a student of Sándor Falvai and Sándor Devich; graduated at Yale University School of Music in Peter Frankl's class in 2004. He has studied in world-class pianists' masterclasses as András Schiff, Zoltán Kocsis, Ferenc Rados, Dmitri Bashkirov, Boris Berman, Claude Frank, Lev Naumov, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Menahem Pressler and John O’Conor.

He made his New York debut at Carnegie Weill Hall in 2003, where the Hungarian Consulate presented him as one of the most outstanding Hungarian talents. He has performed in major cities in Europe, USA and Asia, including Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Paris, Milan, Munich, Boston, Washington, Budapest, Bucharest, Delhi, Mumbai, appeared in prominent concert halls, such as Gewandhaus (Leipzig), Konzerthaus Berlin, Philharmonia am Gasteig (Munich), Chatelet Theater (Paris).

Mr Hlavacsek was awarded ‘Outstanding Young Artist of the Year’ by Gramofon in 2006. The first volume of his ‘World Premiere’ recording cycle of the complete piano works of Karl Goldmark (Hungaroton Classics) was also nominated for ‘best solo recording’ at MIDEM, Cannes in 2007.
Mr Hlavacsek was soloist of ‘EuropaMusicale’ (Germany) celebrating the European Union in 2004. He was elected to Euro Musica Vitae television festival as one of two pianists from Europe. He also appeared in major international festivals such as ‘Hungarian Season’ in Berlin, Como Autumn Festival, European Piano Forum, Cliburn Piano Institute, Fazioli Piano Festival, Budapest Spring Festival, Savaria Interforum, Budapest Music Weeks and Eastern Piano Festival.

Zoltán Kocsis invited him to the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 1997. Mr. Hlavacsek also performed with the Philharmonia Society Orchestra, Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra (Sweden), Danubia Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra of Liszt Academy among others, and collaborated with conductors Péter Csaba, Domonkos Héja, György Györiványi-Ráth and Izaki Masahiro.

Mr Hlavacsek was first prize-winner of national and international piano competitions, including Andor Földes and Trieste (Italy). He has been Soloist of the Hungarian Radio since 1998 and recipient of the Annie Fischer Scholarship from 2006 to 2008 as well as the featured young artist of Jacobi Concert by winning its competition in 2002.

He was a featured guest of Hungarian Radio’s programmes Artist of the Week, From Europe’s Concert Halls, Bravissimo and Music with Words. His recording are regularly broadcasted on Europian radio channels. He was chosen to perform on the CD issued on the 125th Anniversary of Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest.

He was invited to participate in thedocumentaries ‘The Hungarian Touch’ – a film on Hungarian pianistic tradition by Darvas and ‘120 years of the Hungarian Piano Playing from Liszt to Now’ by Kroó.

Mr. Hlavacsek was supported by the Solti Foundation and the Hungarian State Eötvös Scholarship for his studies at Yale School of Music 2002-2004, and a recipient of a ‘Teaching Assistant in Piano’ Fellowship at Shenandoah University VA, USA 2009-2011.
